Short answer: for polished product demos with the least effort, use an auto-zoom recorder (Girato, Screen Studio on Mac, or Cubix Capture). For quick internal messages, Loom is fine. For full manual control, OBS plus a video editor still wins, if you have the hours.

The three tiers of demo tooling
Tier 1: Auto-edit recorders (minutes per video)
These track your cursor and clicks while you record, then generate the zooms, effects and pacing automatically. Girato (Windows, Mac, browser) adds a cinematic 3D tilt camera, typing effects, and fully local processing. Screen Studio (Mac only, from $89) popularised the category and remains beautifully polished. Cubix Capture (Mac and Windows, subscription) adds cloud export and sharable links.
Tier 2: Message recorders (seconds per video)
Loom and similar tools are built for async communication, fast capture, instant link, webcam bubble. They are excellent for "here's the thing, ship it" messages and weak for marketing: no cinematic zoom, limited editing, watermarks or caps on free plans, and your footage lives on their cloud.
Tier 3: Manual pipelines (hours per video)
OBS Studio (free) records anything; DaVinci Resolve (free) edits anything. The output ceiling is the highest of all, and so is the time cost. Hand-keyframing zooms for a two-minute demo routinely takes an afternoon.
