Short answer: open the recording in an editor, choose crop, drag a box around the part you want to keep, and apply it. In Girato, press Crop, drag the area to keep, then Apply crop: the zooms, blur boxes and cursor move with the crop, so none of your edits need redoing. To skip cropping altogether, record a single window or an area of the screen in the first place.
Crop, reframe or zoom?
- Crop cuts the edges off the whole video: a second monitor, a cluttered taskbar, notifications.
- Reframe changes the shape of the output, such as 16:9 to 9:16 for Shorts and Reels, without throwing away what you recorded.
- Zoom moves in on one moment, then back out. Use it to show a detail, not to hide something for the whole video.
How to crop in Girato
- Open Girato in the browser or the desktop app, and record or press Import video.
- Press Crop on the bar under the preview.
- Drag the area you want to keep; everything outside it dims.
- Press Apply crop. To undo it later, open Crop again and press Remove crop.
- Pick the output shape in Look and export.
Avoid cropping next time
Record only what the viewer needs: a single window, or a dragged area of the screen. The text stays larger, the file smaller, and there is nothing to hide afterwards.
